The Cedar has announced its 5th annual Global Roots Festival, two nights of free concerts by artists from around the world. Sept. 24: the ethereal all-female Finnish quartet Kardemimmit and Ukrainian quartet Dakhabrakha, with music they call “ethno-chaos.” Sept. 25: Singing in Creole, Malagasy, Comorean and Swahili, Christine Salem performs the Maloya style of music from the French-controlled Reunion Island off the coast of Madagascar, and the 11-piece Debo Band closes out the festival with Ethiopian-meets-R&B grooves.
